The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Environmental Studies is open to graduates of all types of secondary schools. The program provides a broad overview of the complex relations between society and the natural world. During three years of full-time study, we devote a significant amount of time to issues concerning the protection of nature, landscape and the environment, and to the cultural, social, economic, and political contexts of this protection.
The courses in the Program interconnect knowledge of the natural sciences (such as ecology, geography, biology), the social sciences (such as ecological economics, sociology, philosophy, and history), as well as a wide range of practically oriented courses (such as entrepreneurship, environmental education, non-profit organizations, and landscape management). During your studies in the Program, you will get more than 80 hours of practical training focused on the environment.
Since the Program consists of many diverse topics, we consider it important that you choose your own path of study – we offer more than 30 elective courses and 3 specializations. In your personalized schedule, you can also “mix” the various courses from these tracks:
Socio-Ecological Entrepreneurship
Socio-Ecological Entrepreneurship offers a specialization in entrepreneurship that has goals other than just profit, whether it be in the social, environmental or cultural sphere. Therefore, while the courses in this track focus primarily on practical skills useful in business, they also provide a theoretical and critical perspective that transcends the business world.
Civic Engagement and Public Administration
Civic Engagement and Public Administration offers comprehensive preparation for students seeking to promote the protection of nature and the environment within the framework of non-profit organizations or in state and local government institutions. The courses in this track familiarize students with the work of environmental organizations, providing practical knowledge and skills such as project management, fundraising for non-profit activities, and dealing and cooperating with people.
Cultural Environmental Studies
Cultural Environmental Studies is a track aimed at students who are interested in the roots and the broader contexts of environmental issues. The courses offer a unique cultural and historical overview which provides students with a strong basis for further study in the social sciences as well as in the humanities.
